The National Geographic Society – one of the world’s most important nonprofit scientific and educational institutions – was founded in 1888 with the aim of ‘increasing and diffusing geographic knowledge,’ and exploring the planet and everything on it. Since then the Society has remained faithful to this mission, financing expeditions and studies and dedicating space to them in its official publication, the National Geographic Magazine. From geographic exploration, the Society’s interests widened to include pioneering work in science. This has led to hundreds of scientific publications, written for the public at large and children, all of which shared the same basic conviction: that knowledge exists to be divulged.
In 2001, White Star Editions combined their name with the authoritative one of the National Geographic Society, working to translate, adapt, and distribute the Italian edition of some of the most important volumes edited by the famous American institute.
